Latin America’s largest plastics recycler announces the acquisition of 3 Rios Fibras e Resinas’ PET bottle recycling activity

Valgroup, one of the largest plastic producers, processors and recyclers in the world and the largest in Latin America, announces the acquisition of the PET bottle recycling activity of 3 Rios Fibras e Resinas, in Poços de Caldas, Minas Gerais.

The company is investing in expanding, with an increase in installed capacity, the production of food-grade rPET (recycled PET resin), a recycling process known as bottle-to-bottle, which transforms a post-consumer PET bottle into a new one ready to be filled. Processing at Valgroup’s PET recycling plants, located in Brazil, Mexico and Spain, total 145,000 tons of Post Consumption Recycled Resin per year.

“Valgroup pioneered the implementation of bottle-to-bottle technology in Brazil, being the first company to obtain ANVISA approval in 2008 for the use of PET PCR resin for direct food contact. Our technology has been improved to provide our customers with a high-quality PET PCR resin, in order to enable its use up to 100%, with no decrease in performance in the transformation process”. – says Eduardo Berkovitz – Institutional Relations and Compliance Director of Valgroup.

The acquisition is in line with the sustainable positioning of the company, which has ambitious ESG purposes and goals, such as being NET ZERO by 2040, neutralizing carbon emissions, and recycling the equivalent of 100% of the volume produced, effectively contributing to the circular economy. Furthermore, in the social area, the company

strengthens its goals to contribute to the eradication of hunger, to support education for vulnerable children and young people, to act with respect for human rights, and to stimulate diversity and inclusion through the fair offer of opportunities. Acting in an ethical and transparent manner, Valgroup also reinforces its purpose to meet international standards of Corporate Governance and to implement a solid global Ethics and Compliance program.
